MELBOURNE - Sep 28/16 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A complex low pressure system to the west will intensify, extending a trough over northwest Victoria late Wednesday. This system is expected to become more complex as it crosses Victoria on Thursday with more than one low pressure centre likely. The low will eventually move eastward on Friday to be over the southern Tasman Sea by Saturday morning with a new high pressure ridge extending over western Victoria. A cold front is expected to reach western Victoria late on Sunday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayRain areas with isolated thunderstorms over the northwest extending to central districts by late evening. Possible heavy falls over the northwest. Moderate to fresh north to northeasterly winds, becoming strong and gusty in the west, ahead of a late westerly change in the far west at night.Thursday 29 SeptemberWidespread rain with possible heavy falls, contracting to the eastern ranges during the morning then clearing in the afternoon. Isolated thunderstorms possible throughout, except for Gippsland. Snow to 1000 metres. Cool with fresh north to northeasterly winds, reaching gale force at times in the morning, tending north to northwesterly from the west.Friday 30 SeptemberScattered showers tending isolated in the northwest, falling as snow above 1000 metres, rising to 1400 metres in the afternoon. Showers heavier in the southwest and northeast. Cool to cold with light to moderate westerly winds tending fresh to strong and gusty southwesterly in the west.Saturday 1 OctoberScattered showers in the south and east, clearing from the west during the afternoon and falling as snow above 1400 metres. A cool to mild day with moderate westerly winds.Sunday 2 OctoberFine and mild at first. Rain developing in the west during the afternoon, reaching the east at night.
