Limited Chickpea Stocks in Canada

PANAMA - Sep 25/16 - SNS -- Available supplies of new crop chickpeas in Canada are limited because of the slow pace of the harvest and qorries about quality.0

The week ended with roughly 10% of the crop in the bin, compared to 35% at this time last year. In quantity terms, that represents just 12,000 metric tons (MT) of shickpeas, compared to 32,000 last year and the recent five-year average of over 50,000 MT.

The Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) reports 100 MT of bulk chickpeas were exported through reporting terminals and primary elevators between September 12 and 18. Season to date exports total 700 MT, compared to 1,600 MT during the previous marketing year.
