Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 25/16 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A surface extends from near Kowanyama to near Fraser Island. This surface trough will move northeast and weaken as a ridge of high pressure develops over the southern interior early on Monday. A weak upper trough will move across the far southeast this afternoon and evening while another upper trough approaches the southwest of the state late on Monday.
Forecast for the rest of SundaySlight chance of a shower about Fraser Island and far northern Peninsula, otherwise fine and mostly clear throughout the state. Light to moderate southwest to southeasterly winds, tending northeast to northwesterly about the east coast between Fraser Island and Cooktown. Winds fresh at times along the east coast.Monday 26 SeptemberA slight chance of light showers will persist over the northern Peninsula with patchy light rain developing in the far southwest during the afternoon or evening. Mostly fine conditions are expected elsewhere in the state. Temperatures in the far south west of the state will remain well below average, while warm conditions will continue in the northeast. Light to moderate southwest to southeasterly winds, tending east to northeasterly, and fresh at times, along the east cost during the afternoon and evening.Tuesday 27 SeptemberThe weak upper trough will progress northwards towards central Queensland, with the associated cloud band clearing the far south of the state. Some patchy rain or showers will occur through the central west, with the heaviest activity expected through the northern Channel Country. Mostly fine conditions are expected elsewhere with only a slight chance of showers about Cape York Peninsula. Cooler than normal through the interior of the state.Wednesday 28 SeptemberA new, more significant upper trough and associated surface trough are expected to approach the southwest of the state late in the day. Some showers and possibly some patchy rain areas are possible for much of the state south of about Normanton to Cairns, with the exception of the southeast. A chance of a gusty thunderstorm in the southwest of the state near and to the east of the approaching surface trough and a slight chance of an afternoon storm over parts of the norther interior. A slight chance of a shower in the eastern part of Cape York Peninsula.Thursday 29 SeptemberThe trough system will move across the state with a medium to high chance of showers and thunderstorms developing near and to the east of the trough apart from the northern tropics where there will be only a slight chance of showers. Fine and mostly sunny conditions accompanied with much cooler than normal temperatures will develop in the wakes trough in western districts.Friday until SundayThe upper trough should clear the east coast early Friday morning with fine and cooler conditions in its wake for most of the state on Friday and Saturday. Just a slight to medium chance of shower activity redeveloping about the tropics on Saturday and Sunday. The next upper trough may approach the far southwest of the state on Sunday with the chances of showers, patchy rain and thunderstorms increasing in the southwestern districts on this day. Temperatures remaining cooler than normal in much of the interior on Friday before warming on Saturday and Sunday as winds tend northerly ahead of the next trough system.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Monday.Product IDQ10700
