Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 24/16 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A surface trough over southwestern Queensland will shift eastwards over southern districts during Sunday, reaching the east coast during the afternoon and evening. A weak upper trough and associated cloud band should extend into southern Queensland during Monday and then shift north into central Queensland on Tuesday.
Forecast for the rest of SaturdayA slight chance of showers over the northern and eastern tropics and also over central districts north of about Emerald. Cloud increasing through the Channel Country and extending into the southern interior with some patchy rain and possible thunderstorms, more likely southwest of about Birdsville to Cunnamulla. Fine and mostly clear elsewhere. Light to moderate northwest to northeasterly winds, fresh at times in the southwest ahead of a southwesterly change.Sunday 25 SeptemberThe slight chance of a shower extending in a band from Urandangi to St George, more likely near the inland New South Wales border in the southeastern interior, with a slight chance of a shower elsewhere in the southeast quarter of the state. The slight chance of a shower will also occur over east coast districts, mostly inland. Fine and mostly sunny conditions are expected elsewhere. Maximum temperatures will be well below average in the southwest of the state in a cool southerly wind flow, while warm conditions will extend through most eastern districts. Light to moderate northwest to northeasterly winds, fresh at times near a south to southwesterly change which will reach the east coast during the afternoon and evening.Fire Danger - Very High in the Northern Goldfields and Upper Flinders district.Monday 26 SeptemberA slight chance of light showers will persist over the northeastern tropics, mostly inland. Cloud will increase through southern Queensland with patchy rain redeveloping in the far southwest of the state ahead of an approaching weak upper trough. Mostly fine conditions are expected elsewhere due to the stabilising influence of a high pressure system. Temperatures in the far south west of the state will remain well below average, while warm conditions will continue in the northeast.Tuesday 27 SeptemberThe weak upper trough will move northwards towards central Queensland, with the associated cloud band clearing the far south of the state but extending further north towards the southern tropics. Some patchy rain or showers will occur under the cloud band, most likely through the northern Channel Country where sufficient low level moisture exists. Mostly fine conditions are expected elsewhere with only a slight chance of showers about the base of Cape York Peninsula and the southern tropics, and the slight chance of a late shower about parts of the eastern Peninsula coast. Cool in central and western parts.Wednesday 28 SeptemberA new, more significant upper trough and associated surface trough are expected to approach the southwest of the state late in the day. Some showers and possibly some patchy rain areas are possible for much of the state south of about Normanton to Cairns, although fine conditions are forecast in the southeast. The slight chance of an afternoon storm over parts of the norther interior, with a better chance in the far southwest of the state near and to the east of the approaching surface trough.Thursday until SaturdayThere is some uncertainty with the forecasts for the outlook period. At this stage the most likely scenario is for the new upper trough and associated surface trough to move east across the state on Thursday. Some showers, patchy rain and possible storms are likely with the passage of the trough through areas south of about Cairns. This activity should then shift into the northern tropics from Friday as the surface trough contracts off the central and southern coasts into the Coral Sea, with fine and sunny conditions for most the state south of the tropics by Saturday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Sunday.Product IDQ10700
