Tight High Grade Lentil Stocks

PANAMA - Sep 18/16 - SNS -- Green lentil exporters in Canada appear to be looking at a fundamental shortage of No 1 grade product, judging from Saskatchewan Agriculture's estimated percentage of the crop in each grade fraction.

The numbers are in line with reports from processors, who believe the green lentil crop is an FAQ (fair average quality) Extra 3 Canada. But, the proportion of red lentils grading less than a No 2 Canada is higher than indicated by processors.

There is no official break down of production by class, but based on historic yield relationships between red and green, roughly 77% or of the total crop ought to be red and the balance green and minor classes.
