Canada Chickpea Stocks Limited

PANAMA - Sep 18/16 - SNS -- The Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) reports no bulk chickpeas were exported through reporting terminals and primary elevators between September 5 and 11. Season to date exports total 600 MT, compared to 1,500 MT during the previous marketing year.

Limited sales by farmers reflect the fact harvest progress is lagging last year by a wide margin, while seeded area appears to be down. As of September 12, only 5% of the crop was in the bin in Canada, compared to 14% last year. In quantity terms, his represents almost 6,000 MT of new crop product, compared to almost 13,000 at the same time last year.

Farmers delivered 200 MT of chickpeas to primary elevators during the week. This lifts season to date deliveries by farmers to 1,800 MT, compared to 9,300 MT during the same period last season.

Elevators and terminals reported selling no chickpeas to domestic buyers during the week. So far this season, sales total 400 MT, compared to 500 MT during the same period last season.

Commercial stocks of chickpeas total 8,400 MT, including: 8,400 MT in primary elevators. There are no chickpeas in transit by rail to Canadian ports, compared to none the previous week.

For chickpeas in primary elevators: 3,500 MT are located in Manitoba; 4,600 MT in Saskatchewan; and 300 MT in Alberta.
