India Expects Record Crops

DELHI - Sep 14/16 - SNS -- India's agriculture departments expects pulse production across the 2016-17 season push past 22 million metric tons (MT), forecasting both record kharif and rabi season output.

In preparation for the rabi season conference with state government officials, the agriculture department forecast this summer's kharif crop would reach 8.19 million MT.

The most important kharif crop is tur or pigeon pea. Output is expected to jump 46% to 3.71 million MT, while production of urad is expected to climb 31% to 1.82 million MT. It also said moong or green bean will rise 43% to 1.46 million MT and production of other pulses will almost double to 1.2 million MT.
