Smaller Crops Supporting Beans

PANAMA - Aug 29/16 - SNS -- Dry edible bean production in the NAFTA region will be down over last year against lower production estimates for both the United States and Mexico.

During the past week, Statistics Canada pegged output in Canada at 249,600 metric tons (MT) of all classes of beans. This included 177,500 MT of colored and 72,100 MT of navy beans.

The production estimate had little impact on price. That was reflected in the U.S. spot index for beans, which finished the week down 0.8 points at 138.5.
