PANAMA - Aug 28/16 - SNS -- Mustard seed production in Canada will more than double to 250,500 metric tons (MT) from 525,000 acres, according to Statistics Canada.

In its first production estimate of the year, Statistics Canada pegged output in Saskatchewan at 182,900 MT from 390,000 acres; while output in Alberta is expected to total 67,600 MT from 135,000 acres.

Saskatchewan Agriculture, using a different approach to estimating yields, reckoned farmers in the province would harvest 1,250 pounds per acre, compared to Statistics Canada's 1,034 pound estimate.
