Good Harvest Progress in Saskatchewan

REGINA - Aug 25/16 - SNS -- Farmers in Saskatchewan have managed to harvest 9% of all crops planted this year as most areas of the province reported little or no rain during the past week, according to Saskatchewan Agriculture’s Weekly Crop Report. This is slightly ahead of the five-year (2011-2015) average of 8% for this time of year.

Regionally, producers in the southeast are the furthest advanced with 19% of the crop in the bin. In the southwest, 12% of the crop is combined, compared to 6% in the east-central region, 4% in the west-central region and 3% in both the northeast and the northwest.

The provincial agriculture department estimates 83% of winter wheat, 20% of fall rye, 41% of field peas, 21% of lentils, 10% of barley, 5% of mustard, 4% of spring wheat, 3% of durum and 2% of canola have been combined. Another 30% of canola and 12% of mustard have been swathed.
