Tension in Field Peas

PANAMA - Aug 20/16 - SNS -- North American field pea markets finished the week's trading with underlying weakness developing because of increasingly optimistic yield estimates in western Canada.

Canada's field pea harvest is more advanced than for other pulses, with more than a fifth of Alberta's crop now in the bin along with 15% of Saskatchewan's.

The provincial agriculture department in Saskatchewan thinks yields will average 2,400 pounds per acre, up from 1,913 pounds last year; while Alberta is looking for yields to average around 2,652 pounds, up from 2,502 last year.
