Field Peas Enter New Crop

PANAMA - Jul 31/16 - SNS -- North American field pea markets finished Canada´s 2015-16 marketing year on an easier note as they complete the transition into a new crop pricing basis.

This saw solid reductions in export asking prices and grower bids levels for both green and yellow peas.

Markets are also paying close attention to progress seeding this year's kharif or monsoon season crops in India. Traders in that country are certain kharif area will set a new record, with production potentially rising 40% above last year.

Field peas are not affected as much by the gains in output as green lentils. Though peas can be substituted for pigeon peas in some markets, the impact will be smaller than that experienced for green lentils, which some millers buy as a substitute for pigeon pea.
