Lentil Crop Status Deteriorates

PANAMA - Jul 31/16 - SNS -- The wet growing season is beginning to take a toll on lentil crops in Saskatchewan, with 38% of the crop rated in fair or worse condition and just 15% rated excellent.

This is worrisome way for the growing season to end, causing some market participants to think this year will be a repeat of the 2010 harvest, when yields of extra 3 and lower grade product were abundant.

Weather forecasts for the coming week show an improvement, with several days of sun surrounding mid-week storm activity. If accurate, this should allow farmers to make some progress harvesting the earliest sown fields.
