South Africa Lowers Bean Crop

PRETORIA - Jul 26/16 - SNS -- Dry edible bean production is South Africa is significantly lower than initially thought because of yield reductions in some of the important producing states, according to the South Africa Grain Information Service (SAGIS).

This year's seeded area remains at 34,300 hectares, down from 64,000 last year; while production is expected to sink to 34,745 metric tons (MT), down from 73,390 last year.

This is the lowest seeded area in over 30 years and the first time since 2007 that production has dropped under 40,000 MT.
