MELBOURNE - Jul 22/16 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system southwest of Kangaroo Island extends a vigorous cold front over central districts. The low and front will continue to move east, and is expected to reach the Victorian border late this evening. A series of further fronts will move across the State on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of FridayThe slight to medium chance of showers over the agricultural area, west coast and south of the North East Pastoral districts, increasing to a high to very high chance with small hail possible over the southern agricultural area. Local heavy falls about the Mount Lofty Ranges. Possible squally thunderstorms about Kangaroo Island, Fleurieu Peninsula and the South East districts. A cool to mild evening with fresh west to southwesterly winds, strong to fresh and gusty over the agricultural area, reaching near gale force about the coast.Saturday 23 JulyPossible early frost over the far northwest. The slight chance of showers over the agricultural area and west coast, increasing to a medium chance about the southern agricultural area. Possible small hail about Kangaroo Island and the South East districts, mainly in the morning. Cool to cold throughout, with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, strong about southern coast early morning, easing during the day.Sunday 24 JulyPossible early frost over the far northwest. A slight to medium chance of showers over the agricultural area and the south of the pastoral districts increasing to a high to very high chance over the southern agricultural area. Possible thunderstorms and small hail about southern coasts and ranges with local heavy falls about the Mount Lofty Ranges. Cool with freshening northwesterly winds, shifting colder fresh to strong west to southwesterly during the day.Monday 25 JulyPossible early frost over the far northwest. A slight to medium chance of showers over the agricultural area, west coast and the south of the pastoral districts increasing to a high to very high chance over the southern agricultural area. Possible thunderstorms and small hail about the Lower South East coast. Cool with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds, shifting colder fresh to strong west to southwesterly.Tuesday 26 July A slight chance of showers over the agricultural area, west coast and the south of the pastoral districts, increasing to a medium chance about the Mount Lofty Ranges, Kangaroo Island and the South East districts. Cold to cool with moderate northwest to southwesterly winds, fresh about southern coasts during the morning. Cumulative rainfall totals until midnight Tuesday are expected to be 40 to 60 mm over the Mount Lofty Ranges, 20 to 40 mm about southern coasts and 10 to 20 mm over the remainder of the southern agricultural area. 2 to 10 mm over the northern agricultural area and less than 2 mm over the south of the pastoral districts. Wednesday until FridayShowers over the agricultural area and west coast on Wednesday, contracting to the southern agricultural area on Thursday.
