Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jul 21/16 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A series of cold fronts will cross Victoria over the weekend and early next week. The first cold front will approach western Victoria tonight and move rapidly eastwards across the State on Friday morning as a deep low pressure system passes south of Tasmania. A second cold front will rapidly cross Victoria early on Saturday with another to follow Sunday night. The next cold front in the series will move into western Victoria on Monday night.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayIsolated showers about the ranges and northeast. Showers and isolated thunderstorms developing over the southwest during the evening. Moderate northerly winds gradually freshening across western and central districts and further strengthening overnight.Friday 22 JulyScattered showers extending throughout, tending to areas of rain across the ranges and northeast with some moderate to heavy falls. The chance of thunderstorms about the southwest during the afternoon and evening. Snowfalls developing on the Alpine peaks during the late afternoon or evening then lowering to 1000 metres at night. Mild and partly cloudy with fresh to strong northwesterly winds, reaching gale force over Alpine areas, shifting cooler westerly from the west during the afternoon.Saturday 23 JulyScattered showers across southern and mountain areas with local hail, easing during the afternoon with showers contracting to the coast by the evening. Isolated showers extending north of the divide, though remaining dry over the far northwest. Showers falling as snow above 800 metres. The chance of a thunderstorms near the coast. Cool to cold and mostly cloudy moderate to fresh westerly winds, strong at times near the coast.Sunday 24 JulyScattered showers over the southwest and about the northeast ranges. Isolated showers extending over remaining districts, through generally dry over east Gippsland. Showers falling as snow above 900 metres. A cool to cold day with moderate to fresh northwesterly winds.Monday 25 JulyScattered showers over the southwest and about the northeast ranges. Isolated showers over remaining districts through mostly dry over east Gippsland and the northwest Showers falling as snow above 1000m. Isolated thunderstorms possible over the southwest. A cool day with moderate to fresh west to northwesterly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EST Friday.Product IDV10310
