Potential Record Kharif Pulse Area

DELHI - Jul 15/16 - SNS -- Seeding of this year's kharif season pulse crops continued to advance at an unusually fast pace during the past week, according to the latest seeded area update from the country's agriculture department.

For the second week in a row, farmers planting more than 2.5 million hectares of pulses, lifting the amount of land in pulses by the middle of July to its highest level in history.

Land in pulses now totals 7.1 million hectares, up from the 5.6 million sown by this time last year and well above the recent five-year average of 3.71 million hectares.
