Sweet Potato Seedings Climb 5%

WASHINGTON - Jun 30/16 - SNS -- Planted area of sweet potatoes is estimated at 164,400 acres, up 5% from the previous year, according to the USDA's seeded area estimates for 2016.

Wet weather conditions delayed planting in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, while North Carolina's planting progress, at fifty-eight% as of June 13 was ahead of the 5 year average.

Beginning in 2016, sweet potato estimates were discontinued in Alabama, New Jersey, and Texas.
