MELBOURNE - Jun 28/16 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A large high pressure system over northern New South Wales extends a firm ridge and a dry, cold airmass into much of the state. The high will shift slowly east and lie near southeast Queensland on Thursday and should gradually weaken, with the ridge relaxing as a result. A surface trough will shift east over the southern interior of Queensland on Thursday before contracting off the southern coast early Friday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayFine and sunny across most of Queensland with only a slight chance of showers about the northeast tropical coast. A cold morning through the central, southern and southeastern inland with extensive early frosts. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds, fresh about the northeast coast.Thursday 30 JuneThe ridge across Queensland will relax as the high weakens. Another cold morning is expected across much of the state under clear skies and light winds, particularly the southern, central and southeast inland where some early frosts are likely. Much of the state will be fine and mostly sunny with only the slight to medium chance of showers near the exposed east coast and the slight chance of a light shower extending to the nearby inland in the afternoon. Some patchy cloud may extend into the far southern interior during the day ahead of a new upper trough. A broad low level trough will also move east over the southern interior of the state.Friday 1 JulyThe weak upper trough will likely move slowly north over southern Queensland while the low level trough will shift east off the southern Queensland coast early in the morning. A large high will shift east over southern Australia, extending a firm ridge and another burst of cold, dry air into Queensland in the wake of the trough. Some cloud may extend into the far southern interior though with only light showers or drizzle expected. The slight to medium chance of showers will persist over the northeastern tropics in an onshore wind flow. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will occur elsewhere. Early frosts should not be as extensive as Thursday morning due to winds associated with the passage of the trough.Saturday 2 JulyThe weak upper trough will continue to move slowly north over the state. Dry air will persist across most of the state with fine and mostly sunny conditions expected apart from some showers about the northeastern tropics in the onshore wind flow. Widespread frosts are likely about the southern and central interior.Sunday until TuesdayThe weak upper trough will continue to move slowly north over the state on Sunday before another pulse of an upper is likely to amplify over central Australia during Monday and move eastwards into Queensland on Tuesday. Dry air will persist across most of the state during Sunday with most parts remaining fine, apart from some showers about the northeastern tropics in the onshore wind flow. Showers may develop across central, southern and eastern Queensland on Monday and Tuesday in response to the new upper trough however there is considerable uncertainty surrounding its development at this stage. Widespread frosts are likely about the southern and central interior during the weekend but are likely to become confined to the Granite Belt on Monday morning. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Wednesday.Product IDQ10700 Notice Board MetEye extended into Queensland --> Weipa Radar — New Doppler Capability Cairns Weather Radar — New Doppler Capability Townsville Weather Radar — New Doppler Capability Cairns (Saddle Mountain) Radar reinstalled Rainfall Forecast Terminology Media Releases Marketing Meteorological Offices Cairns weather Charleville weather Longreach weather Mackay weather Mount Isa weather Rockhampton weather Townsville weather Weipa weather Other Information Queensland - Local Forecast Areas About Weather Forecast Services About Warning Services Warnings Water Climate Environment Tropical Cyclones Tsunami Warning Centre Agriculture - Water and the Land Marine & Ocean UV & Sun Protection Rainfall & River Conditions Graphical Views Radar Maps Rainfall Forecasts Seasonal Outlooks Climate Variability & Change Climate Data Online Seasonal Streamflow Forecasts Water Storage MetEye™ National Weather Services Aviation Weather Services Defence Services Space Weather Services Registered User Services Industry Solutions Supplier Entry Point Facebook Google+ Youtube Blog Careers Sitemap Feedback Freedom of Information Indigenous Weather Knowledge Glossary This page was created at 23:30 on Tuesday 28 June 2016 (GMT) © Copyright Commonwealth of Australia 2016, Bureau of Meteorology (ABN 92 637 533 532) | Disclaimer | Privacy | Accessibility
