Chickpea Market Tone Firm

PANAMA - Jun 11/16 - SNS -- Large caliber kabuli chickpea markets continued to strengthen through the past week as offers from exporters remain behind the short term needs of buyers.

Small caliber kabuli chickpea markets were steady in sympathy with large. Market participants are also watchful of the monsoon progress in India. Now underway, the monsoon is roughly nine days late, but moisture accumulations are still expected to be above average.

Pulses which compete with small caliber and desi chickpeas or field peas are not grown during the kharif or monsoon season. However, moisture accumulations at this time are critical for rabi season area and production prospects.
