Beans Maintain Firm Tone

PANAMA - May 8/16 - SNS -- The world's dry edible bean markets maintained their firm tone through the past week, helped by price friendly fundamentals for several classes.

This was reflected in the spot market index for U.S. beans, which finished the week 0.7 points higher at 146.8. This is well below its record high of 200.93 set in February of 2012.

Strength in other pulses added to the underlying momentum, with the result the world pulse price index gained 3.8 points to finish at 247.8 for a new record high. In the meantime, the Canadian index rose 1.5 points to close at 248.2, still short of the record high 254.9 set in 2008.
