Strong Start to Chickpea Planting

PANAMA - May 8/16 - SNS -- Farmers in Saskatchewan made unexpected progress planting this year's chickpea crop, with 24% of their intended acreage in the ground by the beginning of May, compared to no progress last year.

Farmers in Alberta made better seeding progress, reporting that almost 60% of the crop is in the ground, compared to 78.5% last year.

If farmers stick with their seeding intentions, just over 31,000 acres of this year's chickpea crop had been planted at the beginning of the month, compared to 6,300 last year.
