Business As Usual Pea Numbers
PANAMA - May 6/16 - SNS -- There was no real surprise in the amount of peas available on farms and in commercial positions on March 31.
Statistics Canada said there were 1.242 million metric tons (MT) of field peas on hand. This compares to 1.419 million last year and the previous five-year average of 1.455 million.
Inventories on farms were dropped from 1.42 to 1.043 million MT. Of the total, farmers inventories in Manitoba slipped from 20,000 MT last year to 15,000 this year; while on-farm stocks in Saskatchewan sank from 935,000 to 625,000 MT; and inventories on Alberta farms dropped from 460,000 to 400,000 MT.
