MELBOURNE - May 2/16 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A large high east of New Zealand extends a ridge over eastern Queensland. The ridge will gradually relax over the coming days as the high shifts slowly eastwards. An upper trough in the southwest of the state will shift eastwards during Tuesday. A surface trough over southern inland Queensland will shift slowly eastwards tonight and Tuesday, shifting into the Central Coast district during Wednesday. Forecast for the rest of MondayMedium to high chance of showers and possible thunderstorms about the southern inland and southeast of the state, tending to rain areas at times. A slight to medium chance of showers about the east coast. The slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm in the far northeast, and about the far northwestern Gulf Country district. Fine and clear elsewhere. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds, fresh at times along the northeast coast.Tuesday 3 MaySlight to medium chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms about the central parts of the state through to the Wide Bay and Burnett district. Isolated showers and areas of patchy rain over southern parts of the state, mostly during the morning. A slight to medium chance of showers about the east coast and adjacent inland. The slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm in the far northeast, and about the far northwestern Gulf Country district. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Light to moderate southeast to northeasterly winds, fresh at times along the northeast coast. Mostly moderate southwest to northwesterly winds over southern Queensland.Wednesday 4 MayThe trough over the southern interior should continue moving slowly northeast. Showers and possible storms are expected over central parts near and east of the trough, enhanced by an upper trough that is expected to push east into western Queensland. Some showers will persist about the central and east tropical coasts in an onshore wind flow. Some showers or patchy rain areas are expected over parts of central and western Queensland elsewhere, with fine and mostly sunny conditions over southern Queensland.Thursday 5 MayThe trough over the southern interior should begin shifting westwards as the ridge strengthens slightly along the east coast. Showers and possible storms are expected over central and eastern parts near and east of the trough, enhanced by an upper trough that is expected to move eastwards across the state. Some showers will persist about the far northeast tropical coast in an onshore wind flow. The slight chance of a shower about the far southeast coast.Friday 6 MayThe trough will remain over the interior with the firm ridge over eastern Queensland. The upper trough will shift to the east with showers and possible storms over central and eastern parts near and east of the trough. Some showers will persist about the far northeast tropical coast in an onshore wind flow. The slight chance of a shower about the southeast of the state.Saturday until MondayA strong upper level trough, and its associated surface cold front is likely to sweep into the west of the state, and progress eastwards, tending to weaken as it approaches the east coast. These systems are likely to produce some rain areas and at least isolated thunderstorms over the west of the state, extending eastwards during the outlook period.
