Mixed Finish in Peas

PANAMA - Apr 30/16 - SNS -- International field pea markets finished the week's trading on a mixed note despite solid, ongoing export movement.

Data from the Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) suggests Canada is experiencing a bulge in bulk export movement this month, with clearances for the first three weeks of April pushing past 173,000 metric tons (MT), compared to bulk loadings on 135,700 MT in March and 141,700 in February.

Feeding this movement, by the third week of April, Canadian farmers had sold 73% of the peas they grew last year to primary elevators, compared to 60% the previous year. This reflects the dominance of bulk export movement this season as markets take advantage of lower average ocean freight rates.
