MELBOURNE - Apr 30/16 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A cold front over the Bight is expected to move rapidly eastwards, crossing Victoria on Sunday morning and over the Tasman Sea on Sunday night as a low pressure system develops. A weak ridge of high pressure will develop over southern New South Wales on Monday as another front over the Southern Ocean approaches Victoria and Tasmania. The front is expected to cross Victoria on Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayAreas of morning fog in the north and over Gippsland. Scattered showers and drizzle over the northern slopes of the divide, with showers developing over the west during the evening. Isolated showers elsewhere, mainly during the afternoon, though remaining dry over east Gippsland. Isolated thunderstorms possible, mainly about the northeast ranges in the afternoon and over the west during the evening. A generally warm and partly cloudy day with moderate to fresh northerly winds.Fire Danger - Generally High.Sunday 1 MayScattered showers extending eastward during the morning, tending to rain areas in the northeast with possible heavy falls about the nearby ranges. Isolated thunderstorms extending eastward early in the morning, easing during the early afternoon. Showers and rain also easing and contracting to the coast and ranges in the afternoon, clearing by the evening. Fresh and gusty north to northwesterly winds ahead of a west to southwesterly change extending to the far east by early afternoon, squally near the coast. Winds easing in the west later.Monday 2 MayIsolated showers near the south Gippsland coast clearing in the morning, redeveloping in the southwest later in the day and tending scattered in the evening. Fine, dry and mostly sunny for the remainder. A cool day with light to moderate west to northwesterly winds.Tuesday 3 MayScattered showers in southern and mountain areas contracting to the coast and becoming isolated later in the day. Dry in the north apart from isolated showers in the northeast and near the Dividing Range during the day.
