New Pulse Production Records Expected

PANAMA - Apr 27/16 - SNS -- North American pulse production could be 42% above the recent five-year average, reflecting substantial increases in field pea and lentil production. By contrast, this year's dry edible bean and chickpea crops could be below average.

Seeding intentions estimates from the USDA and Statistics Canada discovered farmers hope to plant 13.67 million acres of pulses this year, compared to 11.45 million last year and the recent five-year average of just 9.6 million acres.

A return to average yields would see production of all pulses hit 11.56 million metric tons, compared to 8.94 million last year and the recent five-year average of 8.14 million metric tons.
