Steady Movement Helps Peas

PANAMA - Mar 12/16 - SNS -- International field pea markets maintained their firm tone through the past week as inventories remain tight relative to prospective demand.

Movement from key exporting nations such as Canada remains relatively strong, with the Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) continuing to report that bulk movement so far this marketing year remains at a record pace, despite an overall drop in exports as reported by Statistics Canada.

The most important destination remains India. Interestingly, that country's Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan says that pulse imports between April 1 and February 11 had already set a new fiscal year record at 5.31 million MT. He said imports for the entire 2014-15 fiscal year totalled 4.58 million MT.
