Higher Argentine Area Leaves Beans Mixed

PANAMA - Mar 5/16 - SNS -- International dry edible bean markets registered a mixed performance during the past week, with some weakness evident as seeded area in Argentina exceeds initial expectations.

North American prices were largely unchanged on the week, with the index for U.S. beans inching 0.1 points upward to finished the week at 142.4.

Markets in the United States were helped by a USDA PL-480 food aid tender seeking 2,860 metric tons (MT) of pinto beans for shipment from origin in April and May.

By contrast, the world pulse price index lost 0.7 points to finish at 222.1; while the Canadian index gained 2.1 points to close at 222.6.
