Lentils Maintain Firm Tone

PANAMA - Feb 27/16 - SNS -- Lentil markets maintained their firm tone through the past week, with deliveries from growers sitting just behind the short term needs of processors and exporters.

Markets are also becoming increasingly anxious about soil moisture prospects in Canada during seeding and germination.

Precipitation was less than 60% of normal during the past two months across most of southern Saskatchewan and less than 85% of normal in most lentil growing areas in the rest of the province.

Crops are never lost in February, but markets will be watching closely for a major snowfall event before the end of the winter or a good, soaking spring rain to help recharge moisture reserves.
