Peas Not Surprised by Indian Crop

PANAMA - Feb 20/16 - SNS -- The latest crop production forecasts from India had little impact on field pea markets, which were not surprised to see forecast output for 2015-16 little changed from the previous season.

Total pulse output was legged at 17.33 million metric tons (MT), up from 17.15 last season, but below the recent five-year average of just over 18 million.

Production of all pulses remains well below the country's minimum dietary need of around 21.9 million MT and 22.17 million MT for the coming year. The gap will be filled with imports, with the result there should be enough pulses available to cover the minimum national requirement.
