PANAMA - Feb 12/16 - SNS -- North American lentil markets finished the week on a slightly firmer tone, reflecting tight stocks on ongoing demand.

Facing the prospect of record seeded area in Canada, some market participants are already trying to create a weather market, noting that soil conditions are less than ideal in many parts of the growing area.

Much of the concern reflects comments made by Drew Lerner, president and senior meteorologist with World Weather Inc., at FarmTech in Saskatchewan last month. He predicts farmers will start seeding into dry conditions, with moisture returning to normal by June.
