Mixed Week in Global Lentils

PANAMA - Feb 5/16 - SNS -- International lentil markets registered a mixed performance during the past week, swith prices paid to Australian farmers continue to soften even while bids in Canada and the United States are holding steady.

Markets were helped by the Statistics Canada stocks in all positions report for December 31. The federal agency found the industry was holding an unexpectedly small quantity of product.

Stocks in all positions totalled just 869,000 metric tons (MT), almost half the previous year. That suggests over 68% of the available supply of lentils disappeared in the first five months of the 2015-16 marketing campaign.
