Chickpea Markets Remain Strong

PANAMA - Jan 22/16 - SNS -- Chickpea markets finished the week on a strong note, helped by solid ongoing demand and worries about weather conditions in Mexico.

Frost events in Sonora have materially affected crops in several areas, but the extent of damage is not expected to be known until later in the month or February.

This contributed to price increase for kabuli type chickpeas on world markets. Kabuli had been lagging desi type chickpeas, which have found support from ongoing demand from the Indian subcontinent.
