Peas Could Push Past 7M Hectares

PANAMA - Jan 18/16 - SNS -- International field pea area could push past seven million hectares for the first time in the crop's history as farmers in net exporting countries respond to a stronger price performance for pulses than grains and oilseeds.

Average yields could see global production come in around 11.8 million metric tons (MT), setting new record highs for both seeded area and production.

Demand is expected to come in at the upper end of its historic range, but it is less certain whether the world will see record volumes of field peas moved between countries.
