Global Dry Bean Area May Ease

PANAMA - Jan 18/16 - SNS -- Dry edible beans are not attracting the same level of interest among the world's farmers as lentils and field peas, reflecting diminished exuberance in markets for the category of pulse relative to grains and oilseeds.

This could see global seeded area for all categories of dry edible beans slip from almost 29 million hectares to around 28.4 million. Average yields would see global output slip 350,000 metric tons (MT) to around 23 million.

Demand is expected to be little changed during the coming marketing campaign, which would help reduce residual supplies of edible beans on world markets.
