Slow decline of El Nino Worries Pulses

CANBERRA - Jan 5/15 - SNS -- Climatologists continue to predict the current El Nino event will decline in the coming months, to be followed by a neutral or La Nina period.

The Australian Bureau of Meteorology asserts most indicators "suggest that the 2015-16 El Nino has peaked. . . Tropical Pacific Ocean temperatures suggest this event is one of the top three strongest El Nino events of the past 50 years."

The bureau added, "Based on the 26 El Nino since 1900, around 50% have been followed by a neutral year, whevents ile 40% have been followed by La Nina. Models also suggest neutral and La Nina are equally likely for the second half of 2016, with a repeat El Nino the least likely outcome."
