Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Nov 26/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A cold front over southwest Queensland will move eastwards into the southeast of the state towards the end of the week. Instability will persist or increase near and to the east of this feature, but mainly over inland parts of the state. A weak ridge along the east coast will keep maintain mostly fine conditions over the northeastern tropics. Warm to hot conditions through much of the interior in the days ahead.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayA slight to medium chance of showers along the east coast north of Cairns. A slight to medium chance of showers and thunderstorms in the west and northwest of the state, extending into the southern interior and southeast inland. The remainder of the state should be fine and mostly clear, including in the far southwest. Moderate to fresh southeast to northeasterly winds, shifting southwesterly over the Channel Country.Friday 27 NovemberThe slight chance of showers along the east coast north of Cairns. The slight to medium chance of showers and thunderstorms extending in a broad band from the northwest of the state, through the central interior, and down into the southeast. Storms will tend more likely, and possibly severe, about the southeast of the state. Hot to very hot conditions should continue over much of the state, but cooler conditions should spread into the southwest. Moderate to fresh southeast to northeasterly winds, with south to southwesterly winds in the west and southern interior.Fire Danger -  Very High over much of of the inland.Saturday 28 NovemberA slow moving surface trough extends from the northwest of the state into the southeastern interior, resulting in showers and storms over areas near and to its east, more likely about the northwest and southeast of the state where moisture levels are higher. Some storms are likely to be severe over the southeast inland. The slight chance of showers along the eastern tropical coast in the onshore flow. Hot to very hot conditions should continue over areas to the north and east of the trough, with cooler conditions in the southwest of the state the behind the trough, and in the southeast quarter of the state due to a cooler southeasterly change.Sunday 29 NovemberThe slow moving trough is likely to extend from the northwest of the state into the southeastern interior. The trough will likely result in showers and storms over areas near and to its east, more likely about the northwest and southeast of the state where moisture levels are likely to be higher. Some storms are likely to be severe over the southeast. Warm to hot conditions continue over much of the interior of the state.Monday 30 NovemberThe weak ridge will persist along the northeast tropical coast with the slight to medium chance of showers in the onshore winds. The trough will remain slow moving on Monday, before retreating back to the west on Tuesday and Wednesday. Showers and storms are likely over areas near and to the east of the trough. An upper trough may enter western Queensland on Tuesday, shifting the focus for showers and storms to the west and the interior of the state. Warm to hot conditions continue over much of the interior of the state.Tuesday until ThursdayThe weak ridge will persist along the northeast tropical coast with the slight to medium chance of showers in the onshore winds. The trough will retreat back to the west on Tuesday and Wednesday as an upper trough enters western Queensland and moves slowly eastwards across the south of the state. Cloud should spread and thicken ahead of the upper trough, with showers and thunderstorms possibly tending to rain areas across the southern inland, clearing from the west with the upper trough.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Friday.Product IDQ10700
