MELBOURNE - Oct 7/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weak ridge extends along the east tropical coast. A new high will enter the Tasman Sea today, strengthening the ridge and extending an increasingly moist onshore wind flow onto the east coast and nearby inland. The high will then weaken and shift further east over the Tasman Sea during the weekend, gradually relaxing the ridge. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayThe slight to medium chance of showers about the east coast and nearby inland, increasing to a high chance in the far southeast of the state and near the northeast tropical coast. Fine and sunny elsewhere. A cooler day in the southeast. Warm conditions persisting in the southwest. Moderate to fresh and gusty southeast to northeasterly winds.Fire Danger - Very High over much of the interior.Friday 9 OctoberThe high pressure system will move only slowly east through the Tasman Sea, maintaining the strong ridge along the east Queensland coast. The increasingly moist onshore wind flow will result in the slight to medium chance of showers over eastern districts, increasing to a high chance over the southeast and near the northeast tropical and central coasts due to weak troughs in the area. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will persist over the interior.Saturday 10 OctoberThe high in the Tasman Sea will move slowly eastwards while weakening, with the ridge along the east coast gradually relaxing. A drier airmass will result in just the slight chance of a shower over the southeast. A slight to medium chance of showers will persist over remaining eastern districts, remaining more frequent near the northeast tropical coast. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will persist over the interior.Sunday 11 OctoberThe high in the Tasman Sea will continue to weaken, with the ridge along the east coast relaxing further. Just the slight chance of showers is expected over eastern districts, increasing to a medium chance near the east tropical coast. A surface trough will approach the southwest of the state, resulting in the slight chance of showers or storms southwest of about Charleville though with little or no rainfall expected as the airmass will remain quite dry. Fine and sunny conditions will persist over the remaining interior.Monday until WednesdayAn upper trough moving east over the state during the outlook period will increase instability, particularly over central and southern districts. The surface trough is expected to shift further eastwards over the interior during Monday and will likely enter the southeast during Tuesday and Wednesday. This feature will provide a focus for shower and storm activity though there is some uncertainty with its movement. The ridge along the east tropical coast will weaken further, resulting in just the slight to medium chance of showers near the coastal fringe. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Thursday.Product IDQ10700 Notice Board MetEye extended into Queensland --> Weipa Radar — New Doppler Capability Cairns Weather Radar — New Doppler Capability Townsville Weather Radar — New Doppler Capability Cairns (Saddle Mountain) Radar reinstalled Rainfall Forecast Terminology Media Releases Marketing Meteorological Offices Cairns weather Charleville weather Longreach weather Mackay weather Mount Isa weather Rockhampton weather Townsville weather Weipa weather Other Information Fire Weather Forecast Areas About Weather Forecast Services About Warning Services Warnings Water Climate Environment Tropical Cyclones Tsunami Warning Centre Agriculture - Water and the Land Marine & Ocean UV & Sun Protection Rainfall & River Conditions Graphical Views Radar Maps Rainfall Forecasts Seasonal Outlooks Climate Variability & Change Climate Data Online Seasonal Streamflow Forecasts Water Storage MetEye™ National Weather Services Aviation Weather Services Defence Services Space Weather Services Registered User Services Commercial Weather Services Business Entry Point Facebook Twitter Youtube Blog Google+ Careers Sitemap Feedback Freedom of Information Indigenous Weather Knowledge Glossary This page was created at 01:45 on Thursday 8 October 2015 (GMT) © Copyright Commonwealth of Australia 2015, Bureau of Meteorology (ABN 92 637 533 532) | Disclaimer | Privacy | Accessibility var hostname = window.location.hostname; var host = hostname.split("."); if (host[0] == "reg") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-20386085-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else if (host[0] == "wdev") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-21709175-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-3816559-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); (function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ?
