South Africa Estimate Slips

PRETORIA - Sep 29/15 - SNS -- South Africa's dry edible bean production estimate continued to slip from previous forecasts, according to the latest crop forecast from the South Africa Grain Information Service (SAGIS).

Forecast yields for dry edible beans are down 22% from last year, reaching an estimated 1,147 kilograms per hectare. Despite a 14.7% jump in seeded area to 64,000 hectares, this year's crop is down almost 11% at 73,390 metric tons (MT), according to SAGIS' final production estimate.

While contributing to increased import activity, relatively high prices for dry edible beans in China and for other origins should limit the increase.
