MELBOURNE - Aug 3/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A very cold and unstable southwesterly airstream affected Victoria today. A weak ridge of high pressure will extend across Victoria tonight, however another cold front will approach southwest Victoria late Tuesday and will cross the State on Wednesday. A weaker cold front will move across Tasmania and Bass Strait on Thursday. A large high pressure system will be located near Adelaide on Thursday, moving across Victoria on Friday. Forecast for the rest of MondayScattered showers at first over southern and eastern areas with local hail, but showers becoming isolated during the evening. Only isolated showers developing across the northwest. Snowfalls down to 400 metres at first. Fresh west to southwesterly winds near the coast, easing in the evening.Tuesday 4 AugustWidespread morning frosts, locally severe in the north. Cloudy periods with scattered showers on and south of the divide. Partly cloudy with the chance of an afternoon shower over the northern plains. Snow showers above 800 metres. Cool to cold with moderate westerly winds, fresh at times near the coast.Wednesday 5 AugustWidespread showers over southern and eastern areas but only isolated showers over the northern plains. Showers falling as snow above 800 metres. Local hail and thunder over the southeast. A cold day with moderate to fresh and gusty southwesterly winds gradually extending throughout.Thursday 6 AugustScattered showers near the coast and over parts of Gippsland, but only isolated showers elsewhere and generally fine across the northern plains. A cool to cold day with generally light to moderate southwesterly winds.Friday 7 AugustEarly frost inland. Isolated showers in the south, contracting to the coast in the afternoon and evening.
