MELBOURNE - Aug 2/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weak high north of New Zealand extends a weakening ridge along the east coast of Queensland. A surface trough will continue moving eastwards across southern Queensland in the short term, and should clear off the southeast coast late Monday. A strong ridge over central Australia is pushing cool air into Queensland behind the trough. Forecast for the rest of SundayFine and clear through much of the state with just the slight chance of a shower near the northeast tropical coast. Moderate southeast to northeast winds about most of the state. Moderate to fresh northwest to southwest winds across the southern interior.Monday 3 AugustFine and sunny across the state except for just the slight chance of showers about the southern border ranges, and a slight to moderate chance of showers about the northeast coast. Light to moderate southeast to northeast winds across most eastern districts. Cool, moderate to fresh southwest to southeast winds across the western districts and interior, spreading to the southeast of the state late in the day.Tuesday 4 AugustA strong high should enter the western reaches of the Great Australian Bight and extend a strong ridge across Queensland. Fine, sunny and cooler conditions are expected across most of the state. Just the slight chance of showers about parts of the east coast. Early frosts should return to the central and southeastern interior, mainly about the Carnarvon Ranges and Granite Belt.Wednesday 5 AugustA firm ridge of high pressure should remain over central Australia, maintaining fine, dry, cool and sunny conditions across most of Queensland. Only a slight chance of showers about the exposed southern coasts in a fresh to strong southerly flow. Widespread early frost areas over the central and southeastern interior.Thursday 6 AugustFine, dry and sunny across the state except for the chance of some showers about the east coast of Cape York Peninsula as a firm ridge remains over central Australia. Widespread early frost areas over the central and southeastern interior, and possibly reaching up into the northeastern interior.Friday until SundayThe high is expected to settle over southeast Australia late in the week, maintaining dry and sunny conditions across most of Queensland.
