Third of Pulse Crop Behind Normal

VANCOUVER - Jun 26/15 - SNS -- Over a third of Saskatchewan's pulse crops remain at behind normal development, according to the latest crop progress report from Saskatchewan Agriculture.

Rainfall in parts of Saskatchewan helped address topsoil moisture conditions. But, significant rain is still needed in many areas to help crops.

Provincially, topsoil moisture conditions on cropland are rated 2% surplus, 46% adequate, 38% short and 14% very short.

Crop development is delayed in many areas due to cool and dry weather. Early seeded crops in drier areas are beginning to bolt and/or flower but remain short and thin. The week started with 69% of fall cereals, 58% of spring cereals, 51% of oilseeds and 57% of pulse crops are at their normal stages of development for this time of year.
