Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 4/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A surface trough will enter western Queensland today and move rapidly east, contracting off the southern coast early Wednesday. Warm conditions are expected over much of the state today, contracting into northern, central and southeastern parts on Wednesday as a cooler southerly wind flow extends through the west. A high will develop over southwestern Australia on Wednesday, extending a firm ridge into Queensland in the wake of the trough.
Forecast for the rest of TuesdayMorning fog areas over eastern districts. A fine and sunny day over much of the state with just the slight chance of a shower near the southern coast, through the Wide Bay and over the northern Peninsula. Above average maximum temperatures likely for most parts, particularly the interior. Moderate to fresh southeasterly winds over the far northern tropics. Generally light winds elsewhere, tending moderate to fresh southwest to southeasterly in the west during the day.Fire Danger -  Very High over parts of the North West and Maranoa and Warrego districts.Wednesday 6 MayThe trough will move east over southeastern Queensland, contracting off the southern coast during the morning. A high will develop over southwestern Australia, extending a firm ridge into Queensland in the wake of the trough. Temperatures will decrease in the southwest while warm conditions will persist elsewhere, particularly about central and southeastern districts. Much of the state will remain fine and sunny with just the slight chance of a shower about the exposed east coast north of Fraser Island and near the west Peninsula coast. Some morning fogs remain likely, particularly about the Wide Bay, Capricornia and Central Coast.Thursday 7 MayThe high will remain slow moving over southern Australia, further strengthening the ridge over Queensland. Winds will tend a little more onshore and freshen about the east coast leading to a slight chance of showers, increasing to a medium chance about the southern coast. A slight chance of a shower will also extend into the southeast inland during the afternoon. Fine and sunny conditions will persist in the west.Friday 8 MayThe high over southern Australia will weaken as a stronger high over the Southern Ocean starts to move slowly east. A slight chance of a shower will persist over the far southeast of the state, increasing to a medium chance about Fraser Island and the Capricornia coast. A slight to medium chance of showers is also expected over the northeast tropical coast, mostly during the morning. Fine and sunny conditions will persist in the west. Some early frost patches are possible about the Maranoa and Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts.Saturday until MondayThe high over the southern Indian Ocean should continue to move slowly east, again gradually strengthening the ridge over Queensland. This will result in much of the state remaining fine and sunny through the outlook period. A slight to medium chance of showers is expected about the east coast north of Fraser Island in an onshore wind flow, contracting northwards into the northern tropics during the outlook period. Some early frosts are likely over the southern and southeast inland.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Tuesday.Product IDQ10700
