Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 4/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weak high over southeastern Australia extends a weakening ridge into the interior of Queensland. A surface trough will enter western Queensland on Tuesday and move rapidly east, reaching the southern coast during Wednesday. Warm conditions will develop over much of the state ahead of the trough, particularly through the interior. A new stronger ridge will extend into Queensland from the west in the wake of the trough.
Forecast for the rest of MondayA fine and clear evening across the state. Mostly light south to southeasterly winds, tending north to northwesterly in the far southwest.Tuesday 5 MayMorning fog areas likely over eastern districts. Fine and sunny across most of the state with just the slight chance of a shower about the southern coast. Temperatures will rise above the May average in the northwest, central interior and southern interior. Mostly light to moderate west to southwesterly winds, tending northeast to southeasterly in the north of the state and about the east coast during the afternoon, and north to northeasterly in the southwest during the morning.Wednesday 6 MayA trough will move east over southeastern Queensland, contracting off the southern coast during the morning. A high will develop over southern Australia, extending a firm ridge into Queensland in the wake of the trough. Temperatures will decrease in the southwest while warm conditions will persist elsewhere, particularly about eastern districts. Much of the state will remain fine and sunny with just the slight chance of a shower about the exposed east coast and near the west Peninsula coast.Thursday 7 MayThe high will remain slow moving over southern Australia, further strengthening the ridge over Queensland. Winds will tend a little more onshore and freshen about the east coast leading to a slight chance of showers, increasing to medium about parts of the exposed southeast coast and far southeastern border ranges. Fine and sunny conditions should persist in the west.Friday 8 MayThe high over southern Australia will weaken as a stronger high over the southern Indian Ocean moves slowly east. A medium chance of showers about the east tropical coast and a slight chance extending to nearby inland parts. Fine and mostly sunny conditions expected through western and southern districts apart from the slight chance of a shower near the southern coast.Saturday until MondayThe high over the southern Indian Ocean should continue to move slowly east. A firm ridge will persist over northern and central Queensland waters, with a medium chance of showers about the central and east tropical coasts and a slight chance extending to nearby inland parts and the western Peninsula. The ridge and onshore wind flow will relax over southern Queensland, with fine and mostly sunny conditions expected through western and southern districts.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Tuesday.Product IDQ10700
