MELBOURNE - May 3/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure system is located off the northern New South Wales coast and should track slowly east southeastwards over the Tasman Sea during the next few days while weakening. A high over southeastern Australia extends a weakening ridge into the interior of Queensland. A surface trough will enter western Queensland on Tuesday and move rapidly east, reaching the southern coast during Wednesday. Warm conditions will develop over much of the state ahead of the trough, particularly through the interior. Forecast for the rest of MondaySome morning fog areas in the southeast and parts of the eastern tropics. A fine and mostly sunny day across the state apart from the slight chance of a shower in the southeastern corner and near the east tropical coast. Maximum temperatures warmer than average for most parts. Moderate to fresh southeast to northeasterly winds over northern districts. Light winds elsewhere, tending moderate southeast to northeasterly in the west during the morning.Tuesday 5 MayMorning fog areas likely over eastern districts. A trough over central Australia will enter western Queensland and move rapidly east over the interior of the state. Temperatures will rise further above the May average due to a warm airmass ahead of the trough, particularly in western districts. The trough is not expected to generate any rainfall as it will be accompanied by a dry airmass. Fine and sunny conditions will therefore continue across most of the state with just the slight chance of a shower about the southern coast.Wednesday 6 MayThe trough will move east over southeastern Queensland, contracting off the southern coast during the day. A high will develop over southern Australia, extending a firm ridge into Queensland in the wake of the trough. Temperatures will decrease in the southwest while warm conditions will persist elsewhere. Much of the state will remain fine and sunny with just the slight chance of a shower about the exposed east coast and near the west Peninsula coast.Thursday 7 MayThe high will remain slow moving over southern Australia, strengthening the ridge over Queensland further. Winds will tend a little more onshore and freshen about the east coast, with a slight to medium chance of showers developing. Fine and sunny conditions should persist in the west.Friday until SundayThe high over southern Australia will weaken as a stronger high over the southern Indian Ocean moves slowly east. A firm ridge will persist over northern and central Queensland waters, with a medium chance of showers about the central and east tropical coasts and a slight chance extending to nearby inland parts and the western Peninsula. The ridge and onshore wind flow will relax over southern Queensland, with fine and mostly sunny conditions expected through western and southern districts apart from the slight chance of a shower near the southern coast on Friday. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Monday.Product IDQ10700 Notice Board MetEye extended into Queensland --> Cairns (Saddle Mountain) Radar reinstalled Rainfall Forecast Terminology Media Releases Marketing Meteorological Offices Cairns weather Charleville weather Longreach weather Mackay weather Mount Isa weather Rockhampton weather Townsville weather Weipa weather Other Information Fire Weather Forecast Areas About Weather Forecast Services About Warning Services Warnings Water Climate Environment Tropical Cyclones Tsunami Warning Centre Agriculture - Water and the Land Marine & Ocean UV & Sun Protection Rainfall & River Conditions Graphical Views Radar Maps Rainfall Forecasts Seasonal Outlooks Climate Variability & Change Climate Data Online Seasonal Streamflow Forecasts Water Storage MetEye™ National Weather Services Aviation Weather Services Defence Services Space Weather Services Registered User Services Commercial Weather Services Business Entry Point Facebook Twitter Youtube Blog Google+ Careers Sitemap Feedback Freedom of Information Indigenous Weather Knowledge Glossary This page was created at 20:45 on Sunday 3 May 2015 (GMT) © Copyright Commonwealth of Australia 2015, Bureau of Meteorology (ABN 92 637 533 532) | Disclaimer | Privacy | Accessibility var hostname = window.location.hostname; var host = hostname.split("."); if (host[0] == "reg") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-20386085-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else if (host[0] == "wdev") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-21709175-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-3816559-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); (function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ?
