Railway On Time Performance Inching Up

VANCOUVER - Apr 22/15 - SNS -- The ability of Canada's railways to supply hopper cars for the week they were ordered has been steadily improving in recent weeks, according to the last data accumulated by the Ag Transport Coalition.

During the week ending March 29, the railways supplied 55%, or 4,066 of the 7,406 hopper cars ordered for delivery that week. This compares to 52%, or 4,062 of the 7,801 hopper cars ordered for delivery the previous week.

The actual number of cars spotted at loading facilities in the country was 7,514 cars, including 4,004 for CN Rail and 3,510 for CP Rail. The total included 3,488 cars which were ordered in prior weeks. Since the start of the 2014-15 marketing years, each CN Rail has spotted an average of 3,670 cars per week and CP Rail 3,542.

Since the start of the marketing year, the two railways have not supplied 24,027 hopper cars ordered by shippers for a shortfall of 9%. However, after taking into account rejected cars, denied orders and railway cancellations, the net shortfall is just 9,425 cars.
