MELBOURNE - Mar 31/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge towards South Australia. The ridge will weaken as a trough of low pressure crosses western and central Victoria on Wednesday afternoon and evening. The cold front will clear the far northeast of Victoria early Thursday. The next high pressure system will move from south of the Bight to be near Tasmania on Thursday night and Friday. A trough of low pressure will extend from southern NSW to northeastern Victoria on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayHaze in the south and fog patches developing later in Gippsland. Light northerly winds and coastal seabreezes.Wednesday 1 AprilMorning fog patches in Gippsland. A warm and mainly sunny with moderate to fresh north to northwesterly winds shifting milder west to southwesterly over western and central areas during the afternoon and evening. A band of rain to follow in the west during the afternoon and evening.Fire Danger - High to very high.Thursday 2 AprilPartly cloudy with patchy rain contracting to the east and north during the day and then clearing. Mild in the south, warmer in the north. Moderate to fresh south to southwest winds easing and tending southeasterly.Friday 3 AprilIsolated showers over northern Victoria, mainly in the northeast. Isolated showers near the coast. Mild in the south, warmer in the north. Light to moderate east to southeasterly winds, fresh near the coast.Saturday 4 AprilIsolated showers and thunderstorms in the northeast, tending to rain later. Isolated showers in the south.
