LITTLE ROCK - Mar 30/15 - SNS -- The latest weekly rice market summary for the United States was released by the USDA today.
National Weekly Rice Summary (Arkansas-Louisiana-Texas-California) Domestic Trend In the south, long and medium grain milled rice prices steady. Parboiled, Second heads and Brewers mostly steady. Rice by-products: rice bran, millfeed, and ground rice hulls mostly steady. Majority of mills will continue their steady operations thru April and then reevaluate their operation needs. New crop planting is going slow due to wet field conditions. Louisiana planting seems to be progressing closer to average with other southern states close behind. In California, medium grain milled rice prices steady. Second heads 2.00 lower and Brewers 1.00 lower which is mostly due to a supply of outside inventory from other locations. Rice by-products: rice bran prices steady; rice hull prices not full established. Field prep and planting will occur earlier than normal this year as many famers have already started the process. Drought conditions still exist throughout the state. If conditions prevail, 2015 irrigation restrictions could be implemented sooner than later. CME Rough Rice settlements for Friday Mar 27th, May 15 closed .12 lower at 10.99; Jly 15 closed .12 lower at 11.235; Sep 15 closed .10 lower at 11.39. US dollar index on Friday settled at 97.39. Rice stocks and prospective plantings report will be release on Tuesday March 31 at 1pm central. Please see link: http://www.nass.usda.gov/.
