MELBOURNE - Mar 28/15 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A surface trough extends from the Gulf Country into the southeastern interior of the state. It will shift further westwards over the interior during the next few days as a ridge along the east Queensland coast strengthens. An upper level trough will enter northwestern New South Wales later today and then is expected to amplify as it moves east northeast over southern and central Queensland during Monday and Tuesday. A high in the Tasman Sea will maintain a firm ridge along the east coast. Forecast for the rest of SundayA medium to high chance of showers about the northeast tropical coast, more likely with possible thunderstorms north of Cairns and also developing inland over the Peninsula. A medium to high chance of showers and storms over the Capricornia, with a slight to medium chance through remaining central parts and into the northern Maranoa and Warrego and northwest of the state. A slight to medium chance of showers over the southeast, more likely near the Fraser coast during the morning. Patchy high cloud developing through the southwest though with little or no rain. Moderate to fresh southeast to northeasterly winds.Monday 30 MarchThe inland surface trough will combine with the amplifying upper trough to result in a medium to high chance of showers and thunderstorms over the southern interior east of about Windorah to Cunnamulla - some storms may be severe. A slight to medium chance of showers and storms will extend through the central and southeastern interior and also through the Peninsula. A medium to high chance of showers is expected in the onshore wind flow about the central and northeast tropical coasts. Mostly fine conditions are expected near the southern coast with just the slight chance of a shower developing. Fine conditions are expected in the far west.Tuesday 31 MarchA firm ridge will remain in place along the east Queensland coast while the surface trough will remain slow moving and extend from about Mount Isa to Cunnamulla. The onshore wind flow will result in a medium chance of showers near the east coast, increasing to a high chance with possible storms about the central and southern coasts given the upper level trough amplifying and shifting further east northeast over the state. A slight to medium chance of showers and storms is expected over the interior near east of the surface trough and also through the Peninsula district.Wednesday 1 AprilThe upper level trough should move further into eastern districts and combine with the onshore wind flow to result in a medium chance of showers and possible isolated storms about east coast districts, more likely over the southeast in higher instability. A medium chance of showers and storms is also expected through the far northern Peninsula and northwest of the state. The surface trough over the interior will weaken though still results in a slight chance of inland showers and storms east of about Richmond to Charleville. Fine and sunny conditions are expected in the remaining west.Thursday until SaturdayA new, strong high will most likely move east over the Tasman Sea during the outlook period, maintaining a firm ridge and moist onshore wind flow over the east Queensland coast. The upper level trough should contract east into the Coral Sea on Thursday, though a new upper trough will then most likely move east over the state during the outlook period, entering the southeast late Friday or Saturday. Showers will continue about the east coast in the onshore wind flow, possibly becoming enhanced about the central and southern coasts from Friday with isolated thunderstorms developing due to the approaching upper trough. The upper trough should also generate some showers and storms over the interior of the state with its passage. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Sunday.Product IDQ10700 Notice Board MetEye extended into Queensland --> Cairns (Saddle Mountain) Radar reinstalled Rainfall Forecast Terminology Media Releases Marketing Meteorological Offices Cairns weather Charleville weather Longreach weather Mackay weather Mount Isa weather Rockhampton weather Townsville weather Weipa weather Other Information Fire Weather Forecast Areas About Weather Forecast Services About Warning Services Warnings Water Climate Environment Tropical Cyclones Tsunami Warning Centre Agriculture - Water and the Land Marine & Ocean UV & Sun Protection Rainfall & River Conditions Graphical Views Radar Maps Rainfall Forecasts Seasonal Outlooks Climate Variability & Change Climate Data Online Seasonal Streamflow Forecasts Water Storage MetEye™ National Weather Services Aviation Weather Services Defence Services Space Weather Services Registered User Services Commercial Weather Services Business Entry Point Facebook Twitter Youtube Blog Google+ Careers Sitemap Feedback Freedom of Information Indigenous Weather Knowledge Glossary This page was created at 03:15 on Sunday 29 March 2015 (GMT) © Copyright Commonwealth of Australia 2015, Bureau of Meteorology (ABN 92 637 533 532) | Disclaimer | Privacy | Accessibility var hostname = window.location.hostname; var host = hostname.split("."); if (host[0] == "reg") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-20386085-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else if (host[0] == "wdev") var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-21709175-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); else var _gaq = _gaq || []; _gaq.push(['_setAccount', 'UA-3816559-1']); _gaq.push(['_trackPageview']); (function() { var ga = document.createElement('script'); ga.type = 'text/javascript'; ga.async = true; ga.src = ('https:' == document.location.protocol ?
